Week 165

AFTERNOON IN THE CITY - PART 2

The geometry of a city skyline.

This fascinating piece of art adorns the facade of the Manchester Unity building on Swanston Street. I wonder how
many Melburnians ever notice it? The building itself was completed in 1932 and was the tallest in the city at the time.

The facade of 171 Collins Street, another of the great buildings on this street.

It's wet in Chinatown!

Not a spacecraft, no, just an interesting piece of modern architecture.

Western facade of the old Working Men's College, now part of the RMIT (Royal
Melbourne Institute of Technology) campus.

Another old building on the RMIT campus.

I suppose not many people get to see this bit of wall. It dates from 1845 and is the outer wall of the original cell block
of Melbourne's Old Gaol, where 136 people, including the bushranger Ned Kelly, were hanged.

An eclectic mix of old, fairly modern and modern architecture as seen from
the upper terrace behind RMIT. The conical construction is the dome covering
Old Shot Factory, part of the Melbourne Central shopping complex.

I have no idea which building the turret belongs to, just caught
a glimpse of it between some other roofs and was struck by its
antique look.
