Week 265

MENTONE MOODS AND MORE

The images this week come from a visit to my friends Willie and Dorien in Mentone, a bayside
suburb some half an hour by train south of the city centre. We went for a walk along the beach
on a heavily overcast afternoon. Most of the photos this week were taken with the lens at around
the 300mm mark, and the ISO on 800, resulting in somewhat grainy images, but ones more
conducive to conveying the mood of the scenes.
I will be returning to Mentone, because there is much more to share!

1. The texture of erosion - the sandstone walls of the beach shelter has been so eroded by
the wind that it is a photographer's delight.

2. A very unusual view of the sun!

3. Two visitors among the common Silver Gulls -- one is a Little Pied Cormorant, while the bird with the brown back is an unknown
to me. Anyone recognise it?

4. A bit of slanted winter sun, weathered wood and the sea.

5. Although common around here, I don't often get to photograph a Pacific Gull (this was one
of the pair sitting on the very end of the ruined pier in the previous photo).

6. Silver gulls (and a study in depth of field!).

7.  Looking south towards Mordialloc.

8. Homeward bound.

9. The silhouette of the Mentone Hotel.

10. Figures in a beachscape.
