Week 323

ACROSS THE ANDES

My apologies, first of all, for the skipped week; I hope the images this week will make up for the week you
lost! I am in S
ão Paulo, Brazil, at the moment and it took longer than I expected to get my laptop up and
running here (ok, and I was having a LOT of fun, too, yes!), but now the Cam is back, and this week with my
views of the Andes mountains as I flew over them on my way here from Santiago, Chile. Please remember
that the photos were taken through the aeroplane's cabin window, so they are occasionally not quite perfect!

1. Looking across part of the car park at Santiago airport... the mountains quietly dominate one's views here.

2. Beyond the terminal building... more of the Andes (by the way, this is one of the cleanest airports I have ever seen!).

3. Shortly before six pm local time and we have just taken off.

4. A stunning vista.

5.Even from this altitude the sheer impassability of the range is obvious.

6. Rank upon rank of ridges, each a mountain in its own right...

7. Majestic, awe-inspiring, indomitable... and yet soothing.

.

8. At this point I admit to a fleeting prayer that we'd NOT end up down there!

9. Golden light on these southern parts of the mountains of the Incas.

 10. A farewell to the Andes as night sets in and our aircraft heads north-east for São Paulo.
