Week 336

SOUTHWHARF AND THE SOUTHBANK

This Sunday I ventured out in the blazing summer sun to explore the new buildings on the southern bank
of the Yarra River west of the existing Melbourne Exhibition Centre, returning to  Flinders Street Station
along the northern bank.

1. A dash of red - the new addition to the Exhibition Centre.

2. There are fascinating shapes and contrasts in material in these new builds.

3. Some of the old wharfside buildings between the exhibition centre and the river have been renovated, forming a lovely contrast.

4. Detail of a glass wall of the new Hilton Hotel.

5. A ghost in the mirror? Interesting reflections of the new footbridge in the glass wall of a building
across the river from the new development.

6. Detail of the supporting struts of the new bridge.

7. The new footbridge, with part of the new section of the exhibition centre in the background.

8. A pile-driver on the northbank.

9. Fish out of the water (Northbank Promenade).

 10. Water under the bridge.
