Week 348

A BAY SUNSET AND A FULL MOON

On Saturday the 30th of January we had the moon at its perigee, the closest it will get to the Earth this
year, so I took myself off to the beach at Seaford to watch the sun set over Port Phillip Bay and get the
full moon as it rose. Unfortunately the stiff breeze made moonrise shots almost impossible, the camera
vibrating even on the tripod! I did manage a shot later, this time using a pillar to steady the camera --
oh, for a solid tripod! Oh, and I promise to lay off sunsets for a while after this!

1. Looking south past Olivers Hill towards Arthur's Seat.

2. The beach was still packed with people at the end of a hot summer's day, but I
managed to find this couple of figures on their own.

3. A fiery sunset indeed.

4. Anglers and swimmers and strolling families only started leaving the pier well after dark, and even then more anglers arrived.

5. South of the pier the bathers were still enjoy the sun-warmed water.

6. To the north, the first lights coming on along the shore.

7. As the sun sank lower the sky started flaming.

8. And then the sun was gone.

9. A light out on the bay.

 10. And, at last, the moon! Moonrise was at 8.34 pm, but I had to wait for the moon to clear the buildings and power lines, so this
shot was taken just before 10 pm, by which time the wind had also dropped. Luckily I bumped into a couple I know and we sat
chatting until almost midnight!
