Week 355

OF DERELICT BUILDINGS, DRAGON BOATS AND MORE

A friend, Dianne Paine, accompanied me on a ramble through the area just west of Southern Cross
station and through part of Docklands, thence up Collins Street this Sunday. It's always refreshing to
have a fellow photographer along, as it makes one see familiar places and things with new eyes! The
images this week are rather a mixed bunch - a set of visual waypoints, if you like, of our meander.

1. Detail of one of the old railway sheds near Southern Cross station and just across the tracks
from the Grand Hotel.

2. Southern Cross station and a regional V-Line train. Note the "dent" in the edge of the
platform on the left - I never noticed it before, but it is obviously so that any train using
that set of points won't clip the platform.

3. Reflective artwork in Docklands Park.

4. Looking east along South Pier, Victoria Harbour...

5. ... where there were dragon boat races.

6. And they're off! A dragon boat starts a race (that's why there is no wake, yet).

7. A stainless steel sculpture on the Harbour Esplanade. I exposed for the brightest highlight on the steel, hence the dark and
dramatic image.

8. Another sculptural work a bit further on gave me another opportunity to create a striking
image.

9. Centre Place is a narrow alley between Collins St and Flinders Lane.. this is looking towards
Collins St.

10.My favourite Building in Melbourne, the old Rialto Building, against the backdrop
of the new Rialto Tower.
