Week 357

  HIDDEN MELBOURNE

Our foray into the city this week takes in some of the lesser seen (well, mostly!) views
to be seen in the alleys and crannies of the city centre. My ramble started and ended
at Flinders St station, going via Flinders Lane, Spring St and through alleys and side
streets between Flinders Lane and Lonsdale Sts up to Elizabeth

1. A street artist at work in one of the alleys off Flinders Lane.

2. The bottom of ACDC Lane. The alley is named after the rock band, yes, but because
Victoria's street names are not allowed diacritic signs, it reads ACDC and not AC/DC.

3. Looking down into the courtyard at the Sofitel Hotel. The glass-topped structures are canopies for tables and chairs (removed
while the floor was being cleaned). That is also why the floor is so wet... and that wetness is what caught my eye!

4. A door to nowhere?

5. One of the two fierce bronze Chinese lions in the small Chinese Garden above Parliament
Station on Spring St.

6. A stairway to nowhere?

7. Side windows on the Uniting Church in Lonsdale St.

8. An unusual first floor facade.

9. Cloister walk, Melbourne GPO building.

 10. Equine patience on Swanston Street.
