Week 359
BAY SKIES
This week's
images are from a shortish (4 km) walk along the northeastern shore of Port
Phillip Bay,
from Station Pier in Port Melbourne to Dockside Road and back. The sky was the
main attraction for
me this time. In every case I exposed for the clouds, so as to highlight them;
that, and the use of a
polarising filter, explain why the images came out the way you will see them
below.

HERE for a
map of the city centre (opens in a new window).

1. Beacon Cove, looking west. Station Pier is on the left.

2. Still
looking west, this time from the beach a bit further along. The old
Prince's Pier is now on the left, and Williamstown across
the Bay is just visible on the right.

3. To the northwest the skies above the commercial docks and Williamstown were glowering.

4. Station Pier beyond Prince's Pier... and an immense sky.

5. Looking
back southward to port Melbourne (which is a suburb and not actually the
port!). The Tasmania ferry Spirit of Tasmania II
is taking on cars and passengers (lower right).

6. A closer look. The Eureka Tower is centre-left.

7. Amazing skies over the city and Port Melbourne.

8. Melbourne's skyline from the footpath along West Dock...

9.More clouds moving in from the west now...

10. ... and a last look at Station Pier before I headed home.
